About Amber

Dr Amber Carter is a marine scientist, storyteller, and award- winning explorer whose work lies at the crossroads of ocean conservation and human societies. Her research recognises the intrinsic link between environmental and social challenges, advocating for solutions that address both. Guided by the principles of inclusivity and social justice, Amber is committed to breaking down traditional research barriers which limit the application and use of scientific research to support locally-led solutions in communities at the forefront of the ocean and climate emergency. This has led her to use storytelling and filmmaking not only as methods of documentation and advocacy but as crucial tools in her research.

Amber’s work has taken her to some of the most remote places on Earth. From diving with tiger sharks around oceanic islands in Mexico to study
unique coral communities, to leading filmmaking projects in collaboration with traditional fishing  communities in remote regions of Madagascar and Indonesia.
